Fernando Multedo Article

Mastering Math Helps Students Learn How to Learn

Fernando Multedo, Ed.D., presents mathematics as a foundation for disciplined thought, clear reasoning, sustained attention, and academic confidence.

Mathematics as structure

The article emphasizes that mathematics is exact, abstract, and logically structured. When taught well, it strengthens the habits students use across every discipline.

Teachers and expectations

Multedo connects capable teachers, clear accountability, and high parental expectations to the way students learn, practice, focus, and persist.

Learning how to learn

The piece links mathematical practice to intensive reading, careful listening, concentration, memory, understanding, and the ability to separate strong arguments from weak ones.

"There are no short cuts or laborsaving methods to make math easy or always fun. It takes time and practice and thinking and work."

Excerpt adapted from "Mastering Math Helps Students Learn How to Learn" by Fernando Multedo, Ed.D., Columbia University Teachers College.
